Details of the the Rs. 2.5 Billion Nepal Sports Academy came to light this week after Prime Minister Madhav Nepal went to Hetauda to lay the foundation stone for the National Sports Council facility. Certainly, a complex like this can only help Nepali sports. The key question is would the funds have been better used in some other ways? Should NSC perhaps have targeted a few sports where the country really has a chance to excel, instead of creating an Academy for all sports?
Credit to NSC for placing the complex outside of Kathmandu Valley. Hopefully the location will allow athletes to train in peace and shield them form the daily politics of Nepali sports. Also props to NSC for having the story on their website. I must confess, the cynic in me thought they might not be bothered to update it.
